Broadway stars headline Alliance Theatre's 'Ever After'

ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - What began as a hit film starring Drew Barrymore is now a highly-anticipated new musical right here in Atlanta.  And who better to bring a star-packed film to life than a cast of some of Broadway biggest talents?

Sierra Boggess, David Garrison, and Rachel York headline Ever After, a musical in previews now at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre.  Based on the 1998 film, the show is written by Zina Goldrich (music) and Marcy Heisler (book and lyrics) and directed by Alliance Theatre visionary Susan V. Booth, and is the first production staged at the theatre's newly-renovated Coca-Cola Stage.

Sierra Boggess – known for originating the role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid on Broadway and for being one of the most acclaimed Christines in The Phantom of the Opera – stars as Danielle de Barbarac, a role loosely inspired by Cinderella.  But Boggess says don’t be mistaken: Danielle is definitely her own woman.  “She's very earthy, and she's a tomboy, and she is grounded,” she says.  “She isn't looking for a man to change her life.  She is not looking for that.  She is not looking for a prince."

Boggess and is joined by Broadway star York (who won a Drama Desk Award for her turn in Broadway’s Victor/Victoria) as Baroness Rodmilla du Ghent…a.k.a. the evil stepmother!  York says while it’s a blast playing the villain of the show, the atmosphere behind-the-scenes couldn’t be more supportive: "This is the first all-female creative team I've worked with, and I have to say, it is the most respectful, calm, creative, and effectual...I mean, we get things done!"​​​​​​​
