Award-winning theatre company brings 'Saigon' to Serenbe

It's one of the most iconic Broadway musicals of all time, winning rave reviews and several Tony Awards when it premiered in New York in 1991.  Now, Miss Saigon is coming to Georgia, in a stunning new production from one of the country's most talked-about theatre companies.

Serenbe Playhouse is the first professional Atlanta company to present Miss Saigon, which opens July 21 and runs through August 7.  The musical is based on the classic opera Madame Butterfly, and tells the story of an American solider who falls in love with a Vietnamese girl during the Vietnam War.  One of the most famous moments in the original production was the special effect of a "helicopter" landing on stage.  At Serenbe Playhouse, which produces site-specific productions, an actual helicopter flown during the Vietnam War will be used.

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken spent the morning in Serebe, getting a behind-the-scenes look at this much-buzzed about production of Miss Saigon.
