A complex of storms was rolling in from the northwest in the early afternoon hours. That line of storms led to a number of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in west and northwest Georgia. Storms are expected to be most widespread and strongest in the afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of west and northwest Georgia in an "enhanced risk" area in describing the potential for severe storms Friday. Much of the rest of metro Atlanta is considered to be a "slight risk" area.  In the "enhanced risk" area, more storms may reach severe levels with damaging winds than the number of storms that reach severe levels in the "slight risk" area.  However, every part of the FOX 5 viewing area has some risk that damaging winds could occur today.  Activity is expected to be most widespread through 10 p.m.

In addition to the damaging wind gust threat, a few storms may bring hail. Any storm, severe or not, can bring frequent lightning and heavy rain. We'll watch White County, in particular, very closely. After measuring up to 8"+ of rain there, if any storms roll across that area today, new flash flooding could occur.
