Georgia senate passes high school cellphone ban
The era of the "classroom scroll" is officially coming to an end in the Peach State. On Monday, March 23, 2026, the Georgia State Senate voted to pass House Bill 1009, which extends the state's existing elementary and middle school cellphone ban to all public high schools. The legislation now heads to Governor Brian Kemp’s desk for his expected signature. If signed, the "bell-to-bell" ban will require all high school students to put away their personal devices—including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and headphones—during the entire school day.
