Atlanta airport part of expanded Ebola response
Federal health officials are taking aggressive steps to protect the U.S. homeland as a deadly health crisis intensifies overseas. Atlanta has officially been named part of the federal government’s expanded Ebola response, with Hartsfield-Jackson international arrivals serving as a primary line of defense. The directive comes as world health leaders closely monitor a rare, lethal outbreak of the disease in Central Africa. In response, federal agencies have designated Hartsfield-Jackson as one of only three specific airports across the United States that will conduct mandatory, enhanced health screenings for passengers returning from high-risk countries. While parking at the world’s busiest airport is about to get a lot easier for Georgia travelers. Hartsfield-Jackson officials announced that the airport’s brand-new South Red Deck is officially scheduled to open to the public on June 1, 2026.
