MONROE, Ga. - Congrats to the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes - our High 5 Sports Team of the Week!
The Purple Hurricanes opened the season by upsetting rival Loganville on the road. As a result, the team gained confidence and they haven't looked back, bowling over their next three opponents averaging over 40 points per game behind the solid play of junior quarterback Chandler Byron.
Byron had six touchdown passes in a win over Social Circle. Byron's solid play has helped Monroe Area start the season undefeated and has moved the Purple Hurricanes into the state rankings, climbing up one spot to number eight in triple-A this week.
On the defensive side of the ball, Javion Heard is all over the field. The preseason all-state selection has terrorized opposing quarterbacks with his size and speed.
Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken visited Monroe Area High School Thursday morning and helped the Hurricanes celebrate being named our Team of the Week.
At the pep rally, the team was presented with the coveted High 5 Sports Hand Trophy.
