A woman accused of killing a man in the streets of southwest Atlanta will make her first court appearance Tuesday.

Police say Temeka Jones opened fire in front of her home on Highbury Trail around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

Investigators tell FOX 5 Jones called 911 while others in the area tried to perform CPR, but the man died in the street.

We spoke with Jones' mother, Joanne Jones, and she calls the shooting self defense. She tells us her daughter left the man's home earlier that evening and that he followed Temeka to her home. That's where the mother says her daughter and the man got into an argument in front of the suspect's children.

Joanne Jones says her daughter has been the victim of domestic abuse in the past. Temeka is an army veteran who served in Afghanistan and is described as a loving mother of five.
