Video shows moments before shootout with police in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Investigators have released new video Sunday morning of the moments just before a gunman opened fire on DeKalb County police officers.

Police shared video taken from an auto parts store in Lithonia on Friday.

In the video a man in an orange shirt leaves the store only to discover his work truck was stolen.

With the help of a Good Samaritan and GPS, the man tracked the vehicle to a Family Dollar store near the intersection of Panola and Young roads near Redan.

That's where he confronted the crook, who police say pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Officers in the area heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene. When they got there, the thief started shooting at them.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call DeKalb County police.
