CARROLLTON, Ga. (AP) -- A University of West Georgia student has been shot to death just north of the school's campus in Carrollton.

Carrollton Police Capt. Chris Dobbs tells news outlets that 23-year-old Tyler Ford, a senior from Athens, was found dead near the entrance of an apartment Wednesday afternoon.

Dobbs says Ford was shot after he answered a knock at the door. He says three roommates were inside their rooms when they heard the gunshot at the door.

Police believe the suspect fled the scene on foot but haven't released any details on who that shooter may be.
