MCDONOUGH, Ga. - Henry County police have arrested three men believed to be involved in a string of armed robberies in Henry County, Locust Grove and McDonough in recent weeks.
The identities of the suspects have not been released because, police say, there may be witnesses and victims out there who could tie them to, at least, six armed robberies. The men are being held at the Henry County Jail.
Henry County Police Captain Joey Smith said the robberies were, "basically, the same type scenario. The subject would jump over the counter, either brandish a weapon. He's always masked, has some type of garment over his face."
Police say, in each case, a getaway driver was waiting nearby.
A similar situation happened Friday before the trio was arrested, according to police. The men had reportedly just held up an Advanced Auto Parts store in McDonough.
Major Kyle Helgerson, with the McDonough Police Department, said, "As the robbery unfolded and bled into the parking lot, there was a bystander nearby who was watching everything that was going on and he was told by one of the victims of the auto parts store that they had just been robbed."
That bystander jumped in his car, followed the suspects and got on the phone with 911.
Major Helgerson says, "He gave very good detailed information of their whereabouts, travel so on and so forth including license plate number and all that ."
DeKalb Police pulled the suspects' car over at a gas station off of Bouldercrest Road and I-285 and they were taken into custody without incident. Henry County police are working with other law enforcement agencies, who believe these same suspects are tied to multiple armed robberies in their communities.
Henry County police spokesperson says "I'm told Rockdale, DeKalb, Conyers may have similar events with these same subjects."
