Suspect arrested after standoff at business along I-85 access road in Brookhaven

Police arrested a suspect after a standoff that lasted more than five hours in Brookhaven Saturday morning. The standoff started at a business along the I-85 access road near North Druid Hills Road. Officers took the suspect into custody at about 11 a.m.

Police identified the person who was arrested as 30-year-old Talawrence Slaughter.

Slaughter was charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Criminal Damage 2nd Degree, Possession of Tools, False Name, Felony Obstruction, and Theft by Receiving.

Brookhaven Police initially responded to an alarm at the Guitar Center store at 1485 Northeast Expressway just after 5 a.m. When officers arrived, they determined that someone was still inside the business, which was closed. Other officers came to the scene and surrounded the building.

For several hours, officers were able to see the suspect on the roof of the business, according to a police spokesman.

The North Metro SWAT unit was brought in. That unit includes officers from Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Johns Creek. A DeKalb County Police helicopter also flew over the scene.
