Road collapses after car hits Roswell fire hydrant

An accident involving a fire hydrant forced crews to shut down part of a residential street Tuesday because of a road collapse.

Shawn Seabrook with Fulton County's Water Services Division said a car hit the hydrant around 11:00 Monday night on Roxburgh Drive.  That sent water bubbling up from the main, which undermined the roadway.

"The pressure of water is something else," said Seabrook.

Workers were able to repair the main and replace the hydrant before 6:00 a.m.  Water service was only interrupted for a short time during the fix.

Crews from the City of Roswell will now have to repair the roadway before reopening it to drivers.
