Rescue crews respond to possible Lake Lanier drowning

Rescue crews suspended their search for a swimmer who possibly drowned Saturday at Lake Lanier. The Department of Natural Resources confirmed search efforts will resume at midnight.

The Hall County Fire Services received a call on July 11 around 3:58 pm about a male who possibly jumped into the water but did not come back up to the surface. 

According to witnesses, the 28-year-old was swimming from an anchored pontoon boat.

Officials searched with sonar equipment until after dark on Saturday near the Harbor’s Landing Marina at Lake Lanier. 

On Sunday the Hall County Sheriff’s Office dive team restarted search efforts around 8:00 a.m.

The DNR, along with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, and Army Corp of Engineers are assisting in search efforts.
