Police search for missing Cobb County woman
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Police are looking for a Cobb County woman who was last seen on Labor Day, and they need your help making sure she's safe.
Officials say 53-year-old Valerie Maynard was last seen Sept. 3. Two days later, her white Land Rover was found abandoned in the parking lot of Pigeon Hill on Burnt Hickory Road.
During a search of the car, police found multiple personal items, including Maynard's purse and cell phone. Police say there was no sign of a struggle near her car.
The National Parks Service and the Cobb County K-9 Unit conducted several searchers and were not able to locate Maynard.
Maynard used to live across the street from Shelly Augsbury in Smyrna.
"She's an outgoing gregarious woman, she's always really friendly," said Augsbury.
Friends say Maynard moved awhile back after going through a divorce and was currently staying with a friend. They say they don't know why Maynard would be at Kennesaw Mountain, but they do say she stayed at an Air BNB nearby just before she disappeared.
If you have any information as to where Maynard is, please contact the Cobb County Police Crimes Against Persons Unit at 770-499-3945.
