It happened in front of a home along Alston Drive. SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene around 6:30 p.m. and spotted the area surrounded by emergency vehicles.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department said the device appeared to be a grenade, but the bomb squad later determined it was a novelty item.

This is the second time in two weeks a novelty item has shut down a portion of Atlanta. A portion of Peachtree Street in Buckhead was shut down the afternoon of July 16 after a similar device was found inside a rental car which was just returned. Police believe that the device there was paperweight.
