Police: Man believed to be homeless dies after shooting

ATLANTA - A man has died after first responders found him suffering from a gunshot wound in downtown Atlanta early Thursday morning. 

Medical personnel found the man, bleeding outside the YMCA building on Jesse Hill Jr. Drive. He'd been shot at least once in the torso. 

Atlanta Police Homicide Commander, Lt. Charles Hampton told FOX 5's Kaitlyn Pratt someone flagged down the ambulance.

"That was a good thing," Lt. Hapton said. "The proximity of the hospital is why he's currently in critical condition."

The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later passed away. 

No word yet on the victim's identity. Investigators believe the victim was homeless. They don't know why someone would shoot him, but they think whoever pulled the trigger knew the man.
