Police in South Fulton are actively investigating a body found along a dirt road Monday afternoon.

The body was found just before 2 p.m. by a mail carrier delivering a package in the 6400 block of Chattahoochee Drive SW. South Fulton Police said the postal worker called 911 telling dispatchers the body was in the roadway.

Investigators said the body appeared to have a gunshot wound to the body.

"She said when she went to get out of the vehicle she stopped actually because she saw the flies, so she knew it was probably sitting there for a while," said Michelle Cooper with the U.S. Postal Service, relaying what the mail carrier saw.

Further details were not immediately available.
