Police: 2 deadly overdoses in same Gwinnett neighborhood

Police are investigating two separate overdose deaths that happened in the same Gwinnett County neighborhood Friday morning.

Gwinnett County police were called to a home on Turtle Creek Way in unincorporated Lawrenceville just before 6:10 a.m. Friday. Responding officers said a young man was found unresponsive, and later pronounced dead.

According to police, about 40 minutes later, officers responded to a medical call at another home on Turtle Creek Way, located less than half a mile down the road. Investigators said a second young man was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe both victims died of overdoses. Police said they found a similarity in the drug packaging at both homes, which appeared to be a white sheet of paper folded up into multiple squares to create an envelope, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

"The second paper is much smaller and is ripped up into the shape of a rectangle," police said in a news release Friday afternoon.

Police also said the substance that the victims died from is under investigation, and it's possible both deaths were unintentional.

The victims' names have not yet been released.
