The mother whose toddler was found abandoned along a busy highway in March 2017 will spend the next seven years in prison.

Kimorra Tubbs left her 14-month-old child on the side of Highway 11 near Patrick Road in Newton County.

A passerby found the young boy secured in a car seat the next day. Authorities flew the toddler to an area hospital as a precaution, but he appeared uninjured.

Tubbs initially denied abandoning the child but cell phone records contradicted her account.

The judge sentenced Tubbs to 20 years with seven to be served behind bars. She also will not be allowed to contact her child.
