Mother speaks out after teen's murder
ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A mother made an emotional plea for help in finding the person who murdered her son. Someone shot 18-year-old Jaylen Harmon to death outside a southwest Atlanta apartment complex back in December. A month after her son's death, the victim’s mother visited that apartment complex.
Yana Harmon says she will not rest until she finds justice for her son. Through her tears, she says she knows she has to hold it together but some days are just unbearable. Harmon buried her eldest son but has not yet come to peace with what happened. His killer is still out there and justice has not come.
Atlanta Police found Jaylen Harmon's body Dec. 16 at the Greenbriar Mill Apartments off Stone Road in southwest Atlanta, one day after officers responded to a shots fired call.
Police say they found damage to property and shell casings at the scene that night. After searching the area, they say they found nothing. It was neighbors who called the next morning after finding Jaylen’s body some 100-150 yards away from the initial scene, a handgun was found near his body.
Harmon has been riddled with questions this last month. Her son had no business being in this neighborhood. Why was he here? How did he get here and what happened that led to him losing his life? She says Jaylen had just turned 18 on Nov. 1.
Atlanta Police say they don’t have any updates on this case. Anyone who has any information can contact Crime Stoppers which is now offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to arrest and conviction in this case.
