MARTA sends recommendation for historic expansions to the Mayor's office
ATLANTA - MARTA unveiled a list of 'historic transit expansion and enhancement projects' as part of the More MARTA Atlanta plan.
Under the plan, light rail would be built along the Atlanta Beltline, light rail would also be added to the Clifton Corridor to Emory University. Southwest Atlanta's Campbellton Road would also see light rail according to project plans.
The Atlanta Streetcar would also expand in East and West directions.
MARTA officials said the agency looked at technical data, performance measurements, and conducted community surveys before releasing the project blueprint. The project plan calls for a mix of light rail transit, bus rapid transit, and arterial rapid transit. Some current rail stations would be upgraded, and new transit centers would be added.
The full list of recommendations was sent to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. According to MARTA officials, Mayor Bottoms will have seven days to review the recommendations.
Following the review, the $2.7 billion transit plan will be voted on by MARTA's Board of Directors on October 4.
