Man arrested after hours-long standoff in southwest Atlanta
ATLANTA - An arrest has been made following a SWAT standoff in southwest Atlanta early Friday morning.
Atlanta Police said it all started around midnight when the suspect got into a fight with his girlfriend at a home on Arlington Street. Officers said the man pulled a gun and fired at her. She wasn't hit, according to police.
When police arrived at the scene, they said the suspect ran inside the home. Officers managed to talk to him shortly on the phone before he hung up. Police made six other attempts to reach him but were unsuccessful. That's when police called in the SWAT team.
Police said they were forced to put pepper spray into the house. SWAT members then went door-to-door and found the suspect inside.
Police said no officers suffered any injuries. The twelve people who lived both in the home or nearby were also fine.
The suspect was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be checked out.
