The crane is located behind Ponce City Market.

Police said they were called to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. after two separate reports a man had climbed the crane and could not get down.

Officers brought in the SWAT team and a crisis negotiator while officers tried to determine if the report of the man on the crane was true.

Around 11:45 p.m., an Atlanta Police helicopter flew over the crane using a spotlight and determined someone is on top of the crane.

Officers along with Atlanta Fire and Rescue crews deployed to coordinate a rescue effort.

Just before 1 a.m., a little over two hours since their first call about the incident, police walked the unidentified person from the crane. Police said they will be charging the man with criminal trespass.

The man appeared to be okay as police escorted him to the ground.

Police said they believe the man was under the influence. He could face additional charges.
