A beloved Clayton County K-9 is set to be laid to rest next week.

Deputies told FOX 5 News Ares passed away after serving with the Clayton County Sheriff's Office for eight years.

Ares specialized in narcotics detection, serving in the Cobra Unit and Vice Squad.

Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill said that Ares "was the epitome of a crime fighter."

"K-9 Ares insured that criminals feared even thinking of bringing illegal narcotics into the Clayton County jail," Hill said.

Ares will receive full honors with a police funeral escort on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
