Two people shot and killed outside town house community

Two people are dead after an afternoon shooting in a Jonesboro neighborhood. Clayton County police say it happened in the parking lot of the Riverwood Townhouses.

Two people were found dead after a shooting call at a Jonesboro-area apartment complex on Monday afternoon.

It happened just before 3:30 p.m. at the Riverwood Townhouses Apartments located at 681 Flint River Road. Clayton County police say officers found two people dead in the front yard of one of the buildings.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene and spotted a screen set up by investigators between the apartment building and the parking lot. Crime scene tape surrounded the parking lot and building as detectives processed the scene.

One resident, who asked for her name to remain private, says she came outside right after the shooting.

"I heard initial popping sounds. I was like, ‘is it firecrackers?’" said the resident. "But then I realized, I heard the sound of children running."

She says that's when other neighbors jumped in and called 911 and she sat with one young man as he laid in the parking lot, waiting for help to arrive.

"I was holding his hand, and I was just trying to make sure he stayed at calm as possible and I knew he was in shock," she explained.

"He was taking his last breath, and his last words were, ‘Mama, mama, mama,’" she said. "It gave me chills inside my body that I will never ever, ever forget."
