Investigators: Newton County teen killed by boyfriend

A Newton County family wants answers after their 19-year old daughter is strangled to death, deputies said, by her boyfriend.

Alyssa Wright told her mother she was going to visit 19-year -old Elijah Ramoutar Tuesday evening at his family’s home in Covington. Wright’s family said there were no signs of trouble.

“I’ve never seen a little boy dote so much on my daughter as he did. How much he loved her, how beautiful she was, the things he did for her,” Melinda Wright told FOX 5’s Aungelique Proctor.

Newton County deputies were called to 105 White Birch Drive in Covington Tuesday night and found the teen’s body. The suspect, Ramoutar, was taken into custody on the scene.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations conducted an autopsy on the body and concluded Alyssa was strangled to death.

Family members said the two had been dating since January. Ms. Wright graduated from Alcovy High School in May of 2016 and wanted to become a labor and delivery nurse.

Deputies did not release any information about what they believe preceded the death.
