An armed thief shoots their way into a Henry County church, shattering a glass door, and all in broad daylight.

It happened Monday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Stockbridge. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area and called the police.

“They shot both doors out all the glass was gone,” said Jerome Pittman, a church employee.

Pittman said they patched up bullet holes, evidence of the bold crime.

“Doors had been bust all out and they found four slugs in the wall,” Pittman said.

Church surveillance cameras captured the burglar running over safety cones as he entered the parking lot of the church around 3:30 p.m.

“The neighbors heard gunfire in the area so the neighbors called police,” Major Mike Ireland, Henry County Police Department.

Major Ireland said the thief stole musical instruments and equipment.

“The church had their band equipment and a piano and some amplifier and I believe some guitar and this gentleman pretty much stole those items,” Major Ireland.

Police released images of the suspect’s vehicle identified as a silver 2004 to 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with a sticker on the bottom right side of the rear window.

Church members are thankful no one was inside when the thief struck.

“When I got the call back it really shocked me. I said ‘It ain’t been too long since I had just left,’” said Pittman.

Pittman spent some time at the church that morning and headed home just hours before the armed intruder showed up.

Anyone with information on the armed burglary is asked to call the Henry County Police Department.
