Hawks player gives back to Atlanta area students

ATLANTA - The Atlanta Hawks are giving back to local kids who are going back to school.

Hawks player DeAndre' Bembry hosted a "Barbecue, Basketball, and Backpacks" event at Cleopas R. Johnson Park.

The free camp was open to all children heading back to school.

Bembry gave out books, pencils, and other items the kids will need when school starts back.

Outside of the free giveaways, Bembry said he wanted to show how "we could get better as a community."

"It's definitely great for the kids. I'm definitely trying to show them the A.P. world experience," Bembry said. "There's a lot more stuff you can do out here, starting with gun violence."
