A former Forsyth County pet groomer will spend at least three years in prison.

A jury convicted 44-year-old Michelle Root of aggravated cruelty to animals Thursday.

They found her guilty of kicking and choking a dog named Meko to death in 2017.

The five-year sentence includes three years to serve, two years of probation.

And Root is prohibited from ever caring for or grooming animals again.
