All of the eastbound lanes were closed for a couple of hours, and only one westbound lane remained open, near Chapel Hill Road/Exit 36 west of Atlanta around 1:20 p.m.

Traffic backups extended up to six miles, authorities said.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes, such as Highway 78.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene shortly before 4 p.m. and found the wires cleared from the busy highway.

Georgia Power said they are investigating why the wire fell.

There were no injuries reported.
