Cumming girl makes statement in world of pet boutiques

A young girl in Cumming is making a fashion statement in the world of pet boutiques. Her clients are impressed when they learn she has a streak of generosity and a personal story of survival to tell. FOX 5's Ron Gant caught up with Isabella Masso and her mother, at their home.

Isabella loves designing and dogs. She works in a corner of the dining room dedicated to making her signature dog bows and bow ties.

“Some people want dogs to be fabulous and pretty and cute and when there's fashion contests for dogs, they might want to have a bow for their dogs,” said Isabella.

The young entrepreneur started Isabellas's Pet Shop. She travels with her line of dog accessories to various dog festivals throughout the area.

Clients like her generosity when they learn she gives a portion of each sale she makes to various dog shelters and rescue groups. Her mother, Mariamar Masso, loves her daughter's giving spirit.

“She wanted to give back and support rescue organizations. So, part of every sale that is made through Isabella's Pet Shop is donated back to a rescue organization," said Masso.

But production halted last August when Isabella fell ill. Doctors at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta removed a large tumor from her abdomen. Her recovery was delicate and it took time for her just to stand and walk.

Clients, friends and rescue groups heard about her hospitalization. Many wanted to bring their dogs to visit her, but regulations only allow certain service dogs in the hospital. A group called Canine Assistants was able to step in and give Isabella the emotional boost she needed to get back on her feet.

According to her mother, they made sure one of their dogs made it in to visit her almost every day during her recovery.

The surgery was nearly a year ago. Doctors say the large tumor was benign. Isabella is back to designing doggie bows and bow ties and her dogs Lilly and Moose happily model them for her.
