SAVANNAH, Ga. - The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three people Thursday after their 15-foot boat capsized near the entrance of the north Savannah River jetties.
A crew from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island responded to the scene after receiving a report at 11 a.m. from a good Samaritan who spotted the distressed individuals standing on the jetties.
The rescue team swiftly removed the three people and transferred them to awaiting emergency medical services at Station Tybee Island. No injuries or medical concerns were reported.
"Station Tybee Island boat crew did a great job today responding swiftly to the report and were able to recover all distressed persons," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Victoria Zeman, a Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstander.
Zeman emphasized the importance of preparation for boating trips, adding, "Safety equipment is crucial in distress situations. It is important to ensure your vessel is appropriately equipped before heading out on the water."
The Coast Guard urges all mariners to prioritize safety and preparedness before venturing onto the water.
