CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - The Clayton County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its officers who died just before Christmas.
On Dec. 21, Executive Protection Officer John Ellison was found unresponsive at his home, officials said.
Medics rushed Ellison to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"Officer Ellison was a valued member of my Executive Protection Team, and his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the safety of our community will be deeply missed," Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen wrote on Facebook. "His passing is a profound loss for his family, friends, and the entire Clayton County Sheriff’s Office."
The department has placed a memorial for Ellison outside the Clayton County Courthouse until Friday night so that members of the community can come and pay their respects.

"John Ellison’s legacy of service and dedication will remain in our hearts, and we will honor his memory as we continue our mission to protect and serve," Allen said.
Ellison's funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Now Faith Apostolic Ministries on Rex Road in Rex, Georgia.
