Georgia State Patrol troopers are trying to find a driver who ran into a Clayton County police officer and kept driving.

Investigators said the officer was working an accident on Interstate 75 near Charles W Grant Parkway around 11:45 p.m. Thursday when the accident took place. He was trying to block a lane of northbound traffic a couple hundred feet from the wreck.

Police said the car kept going north on I-75 without stopping.

The injured officer was able to call for help and paramedics quickly found him. Atlanta police escorted the injured officer as he was brought to Atlanta Medical Center. That's where doctors are treating him for what are described as non-life threatening injuries.

The officer is expected to spend the night at the hospital for observation.

GSP troopers have taken over the investigation into the hit and run. Unfortunately, the injured officer hasn't been able to give them a good description of the vehicle that hit him.
