Woman dead, another injured after cars crash into Decatur Kroger

DECATUR, Ga. - Police are investigating after two vehicles crashed into a Kroger in Decatur on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one woman dead and another hospitalized. 

What we know:

DeKalb County police confirmed they are investigating the crash into the Kroger on Wesley Chapel Road. 

Capt. Jaeson Daniels with DeKalb County Fire and Rescue said one vehicle crashed into another, pushing the two into the side of the grocery store. 

The driver of the vehicle who caused the crash was taken to the hospital with injuries, according to Daniels. 

The other female driver died on the scene. 

Additionally, two juveniles who were on the sidewalk when the crash happened were both taken to the hospital for medical evaluations. 

FOX 5 crews on scene sent video showing the vehicles crashed into the building under the pharmacy sign.

Footage shows the cars plowed into a line of shopping carts. An ambulance and police tape are also visible. 

What we don't know:

Authorities have not provided further information on what may have led to the crash.

What they're saying:

Mawakana White, who witnessed the crash, called the scene "chaotic."

"Well, there was an elderly lady that was running. I came through that light, she came down here probably about 80 miles an hour. Everybody thought that, you know, they were going to stop. She did not stop. She ran directly into the car that was parked over there, the gray car. And everything just went chaotic. And we think that the lady who was sitting in the front was knocked all the way to the back, the one that's deceased," White recalled to FOX 5.

White said it was "heartbreaking" and reminded her of her son passing in a crash just months ago. 

"I mean, everybody kept saying, is she going to slow down, is she going to slow down? And she didn't. So you know how people speculate it was a medical emergency. No one really knows, but it was an accident," White said.
