Atlanta Police are investigating after a 6-month-old baby was grazed by a bullet Sunday night in southeast Atlanta.

The incident happened near 630 New Town Circle SE when families were outside an apartment complex, according to police.

Authorities told FOX 5, a man pulled up in a car and fired around 20 shots into the area where dozens of people were gathered. Family members said the woman who jumped on the baby to shield the child from gunfire was shot twice.

Authorities said the baby is alert, conscious, and breathing.

Both the woman and the baby are in the hospital and are expected to be okay.

Investigators said the gunman jumped back in his car and drove off after the shooting.
