Atlanta woman saves little boy from burning home

ATLANTA - A neighbor saved a little boy from a house fire early Tuesday morning in southwest Atlanta.

Authorities were called to the 2200 block of Polar Rock Avenue around 2 a.m. after a fire broke out at a home. Investigators said four people were inside the home when the blaze started, including a man and his girlfriend's three children.

 

 

The man, along with two of the children, got out of the home safely, but the third child was stuck inside. That’s when a woman rushed in and grabbed the young boy.

“I heard him crying and I didn’t want a tragedy,” the woman told FOX 5. “I had to help him.”

Fire officials said the adult who had been in the home also tried to rescue the boy, but the woman got to the child before he did. The man was injured in the fire and taken to a nearby hospital.

Authorities said a firefighter was also injured in the fire after falling.

Fire officials said the blaze was a result of a stove fire. The man told firefighters he had fallen asleep while dinner was still cooking on the stove.
