Atlanta Police Mounted Patrol helps deter Super Bowl crime

To handle crowd control and curb crimes among thousands of people downtown, Atlanta Police has deployed its Mounted Patrol to help with Super Bowl safety.

The unit is specially trained to patrol large crowds and can respond to incidents quicker than officers in vehicles, Segways or bicycles.

The height of the horses and their human partners sitting high above a crowd can help them spot trouble.

"We can see everything, especially in crowded situations. We can identify a problem another officer could not because of his height," said Lt. Greg Lyon.

Tourists are encouraged to say hello to the working officers and ask them for any help if they have concerns during their visit downtown.
