Atlanta offers partial amnesty on overdue parking fines

Anyone who has parking tickets issued by Atlanta’s old parking company better heed the warning.

Those tickets and the hefty late payment penalties are still in force.

City Hall wants folks to take advantage of a two-week amnesty program to go to the courthouse and clear your record.

The waiver of all late charges is the carrot. But there is also a painful stick attached to the program.

Violators are more likely than ever to be booted if they decide not to settle.

And the city enforcement cars will be equipped with the same technology used by police, license plate readers to identify those with three or more outstanding tickets or those with charges at $100 or more.
