Atlanta Humane Society heading to Houston to help shelters
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Humane Society is heading to Houston Tuesday to help with the intake and care of stray, lost, and abandoned animals.
Six AHS employees will help shelters and volunteers who have been working around the clock to care for animals impacted by Harvey.
AHS said they are not planning to bring back any animals to Atlanta, however, some were sent to Georgia last week from shelters that had to be cleared out to make way for pets impacted by the storm.
The humane society employees will serve in a support role in Texas.
Ahead of Tuesday's trip, the organization asked for donations to have resources needed to take care of as many animals as possible. Every dollar donated by August 31 was matched by a group of major AHS donors.
