Anti-Semiti letters sent to local synagogue

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - A warning for Jewish community centers-be weary of opening certain envelopes that may come in the mail. The Anti-Defamation League told FOX 5 a rash of threatening flyers has been popping up at various synagogues...even one locally.

"Basically the warning was to be on the lookout for these letters they have very anti-Semitic statements," Captain Chris Byers, Johns Creek Police Public Information Officer said.

Captain Chris Byers told FOX 5 a synagogue contacted authorities on Nov. 9 after the Anti-Defamation League sent out a security advisory warning Jewish centers to be on high alert.

"One of the synagogues in Johns Creek did receive one of those letters right after they got this email," Byers said. "They called us; we came out and took possession of it. The letter has been sent to the GBI."

The letter was never opened by the synagogue or local police, but Byers said the center got similar letters in the past.

"It was over the summer," Byers said. "It had strange articles."

The Anti-Defamation League encourages people to contact authorities before opening anything suspicious.
