ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - People living in metro Atlanta are joining forces to donate items to people in the storm-ravaged Bahamas.
Hurricane Dorian hammered parts of the country, killing at least five people and damaging houses and other structures.
The Bahamas Consulate General of Atlanta is leading a relief effort. The organization has several members and volunteers who are originally from the islands.

They told FOX 5 they are personally impacted by the disaster.
The Consulate is accepting the following materials :
- Water
- Ice
- Nonperishable food
- Family hygiene kits (tissues, toothpaste, toothbrushes, women’s sanitary products)
- Cleaning supplies (bleach, mops, brooms, garbage bags, sponges, etc.)
- Disinfectants
- Cots
- Beds
- Portal Potties
- Baby items/supplies
- Blankets
- Flashlights
- Repellent
- Batteries
- Solar-powered chargers
- Generators
- First aid kits
- Building supplies (plastic sheeting, plywood, shingles)
- Chainsaws

Conch Heaven restaurants have partnered with the Consulate by accepting the same donations at their two locations up until 9 p.m at 6035 Peacthree Boulevard in Doraville and 6552 GA-85 in Riverdale.
