Nicolas Maduro and wife in NY court for drug charges
Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, appeared in a Manhattan federal court Thursday to fight drug trafficking charges. Maduro’s defense argued the U.S. is violating his rights by blocking Venezuelan funds from paying his legal fees. The couple, captured by U.S. forces in January, faces life in prison if convicted of shipping tons of cocaine into the U.S. President Donald Trump stated Maduro will receive a fair trial but suggested more charges could follow.
