Congress has a day to prevent government shutdown
The clock is ticking in Washington as lawmakers try to reach a deal avoid another government shutdown. With little time left, Congress still does not have a clear plan. Lawmakers have until Saturday night to pass a new spending bill. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has struggled to rein in support from his far right colleagues. In the Senate, Republicans and Democrats are working together on a bill that will fund the government for 6 weeks, but that's not likely to pass. Speaker McCarthy has now urged President Joe Biden to get involved.
