Capt. Andrew Anderson with Atlanta Fire Rescue gives an update on the collision between a train and semi-truck on SW Atlanta overnight.
ATLANTA - A fiery collision between a CSX freight train and a semi-truck temporarily disrupted MARTA rail service in southwest Atlanta early Friday, but train operations have since returned to normal.
What we know:
The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. near Lee Street and Sparks Street, where the impact caused the cab and front portion of the tractor-trailer to catch fire.
Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze while investigators began examining the scene.

MARTA service restored
What they're saying:
The collision prompted MARTA to temporarily suspend rail service in the area as a safety precaution. Officials said soot from the fire reached the nearby rail infrastructure, requiring inspections before trains could resume operating.
MARTA announced Friday morning that normal rail service has been restored, including trains traveling to and from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Cleanup continues
What's next:
Although trains are running again, crews remained at the scene as of 6 a.m. Friday clearing debris and investigating what led to the crash.
The semi-truck sustained extensive fire damage, with scorch marks covering much of the cab and trailer.
Officials also confirmed the truck was not carrying any hazardous materials. Crews were seen washing out the trailer during the cleanup process.
Investigation ongoing
What's next:
Authorities said no injuries have been reported. The train operator was not hurt, and emergency crews found no patients at the scene.
Investigators said they have not yet made contact with the driver of the semi-truck, and it is unclear why the driver was no longer at the scene when first responders arrived.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
