Stabbing suspect caught in Midtown Atlanta
Atlanta police have arrested a stabbing suspect in Midtown Atlanta after a brief chase. The suspect was seen running along the interstate before police were able to detain the person.
ATLANTA - Atlanta police have released new details about a chase involving a man leading officers through Midtown and Atlantic Station early Thursday afternoon. Authorities believe the man may have active criminal warrants out of DeKalb County.
What we know:
Officers were called to a location in the 200 block of Memorial Drive SW around 5:40 a.m. about a man who had been stabbed.
When they arrived, police learned the man had fled the scene.
Hours later, just before 11:30 a.m., police received another call at a location in the 1400 block of Peachtree Street, allegedly involving the same man from the earlier report, police said.
Officers arrived and found the man matching the earlier description. Authorities tried to issue a criminal trespass warning, but the man fled on foot. A pursuit ensued across the interstate toward the 1600 block of Peachtree Street.
FOX 5 Atlanta photojournalist Billy Heath, who happened to be on-site for an unrelated story, witnessed the chaotic scene as 10 to 15 officers pursued the suspect, who was running along the Amtrak railroad tracks and the 17th Street Bridge.
The man was arrested soon after.
What we don't know:
Police are working to confirm the suspect’s identity, but they believe he has two active arrest warrants out of DeKalb County for aggravated assault and armed robbery.
Authorities did not provide additional information on the severity of the man’s stab wound.
An investigation is ongoing.
