ATLANTA - A suspect was arrested after an hours-long standoff at the Atlanta Ritz-Carlton.
What we know:
Atlanta police originally responded to calls at the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Atlanta on Sunday after reports that a man refused to leave the hotel. Officers told FOX 5 they believe the man may have a gun, prompting police to block off roads around the hotel as a precaution.
Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police updated FOX 5 to say the standoff was over.
What we don't know:
Officials have yet to confirm if the suspect was armed. They also haven't said if he was a guest or where the standoff took place inside the hotel.
What they're saying:
FOX 5 spoke with someone who works nearby. They said they sadly see things like this often and said it usually revolves around someone having a mental health crisis. They were shocked to figure out where the incident was happening.
"Am I shocked? Absolutely not! It happens quite a bit downtown here," said Christopher Trauco. "To see this level of response at the Ritz-Carlton, it makes you ask a lot of questions. That is a very high-end hotel. It’s very uncommon to see any type of police activity at the Ritz-Carlton."
