Police fear foul play in case of missing Union City man
UNION CITY, Ga. - Union City Police are trying to find a man who they believe may have fallen into harm’s way.
Lester Jones, 42, vanished last Thursday afternoon when he went to a nearby Walmart from his Union City home. Jones was last seen traveling in his gray 2000 Nissan Maxima TAG: PYT 2600. He's 5'11, 150 pounds.
His roommate, Patrick McDonald, is worried sick. After many unanswered phone calls, McDonald had a sinking feeling.
“I just knew that something had happened because he does not never ever pick up his phone and he never ever not have his phone on him,” said McDonald.
Union City Police are trying to identify a man wearing a mask who was recorded on surveillance video at a Bank of America ATM near the Walmart using the credit card Jones had with him.
“The activity on the bank card is what has caused some concern, one that is in someone else's hand,” said Officer Chris Murphy.
Police said the man left in a silver car with two men. The vehicle is the same color as the Nissan Maxima Jones was driving. Police are investigating to determine if the car on surveillance is the same one Jones was driving.
“It's possible, they're very similar, but we're unable to verify it,” said Officer Murphy.
McDonald said Jones had his credit card and his car when he vanished. He said Jones is without medication for PTSD and Narcolepsy after a life-altering break-in at his childhood Mississippi home years ago.
“He was shot when he was young in his teens, with a .45 in his hip,” said McDonald.
McDonald is afraid a worst fate has fallen on his roommate which is why he's hoping someone will identify the man in the mask.
“If you know him, just say something, turn him in, because this ain't going to be the last time he'll ever do something like this,” said McDonald.
Union City Police are offering a $2,000 Crime Stoppers reward. Anyone with information is asked to call 404-577-TIPS. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
