DECATUR, Ga. - A woman was killed after a tree fell onto a home in Decatur on Wednesday evening, according to DeKalb County Fire Rescue.
What we know:
The incident happened just after 6:00 p.m. at the 3800 block of Bretton Woods Road.
Officials confirmed that a tree fell on a home, and the occupant of the home was found dead.
Tiffany Pinkston, a spokesperson for DeKalb County Fire Rescue, said the tree fell from an estimated 100 to 150 feet away in the yard, but it was tall enough to make direct contact with the home.
"Due to the size of the tree, it was able to make contact with the house. It is going to require a lot to cut down this tree, cut it into smaller pieces, as well as probably some type of crane to remove the pieces," she added.
What we don't know:
Officials have not yet released the identity or age the victim.
It is unclear if anyone else was inside the house when the tree came down.
Authorities also haven’t confirmed exactly what caused the tree to fall and if it was a result of the recent overnight storms.
