Panama City Beach landmark Jaws Souvenirs shop destroyed by early morning fire

An iconic Panama City Beach souvenir shop, Jaws Souvenirs, was destroyed in an early morning blaze, Friday. 

In a multi-agency response to Jaws Souvenirs on Thomas Drive on Aug. 21, fire crews worked to bring the fire under control.

The Panama City Fire Department assisted by providing elevated water streams to help attack the flames from above – the department said – while Naval Support Activity-Panama City Fire and Panama City Fire Department also provided mutual aid, Bay County Florida Emergency Services reported. 

Walton County Fire Rescue, Florida, South Walton Fire District and Jackson County Fire Rescue also assisted.

What is Jaws Souvenirs? 

Jaws Souvenirs, located at 7100 Thomas Drive in Panama City Beach, is known for its wide selection of beach gear, swimwear and custom T-shirts and shark jaw entrance. The value store boasts low prices with items at $9.99 or less. 

What we know:

The origin of the fire is not known at this time. 

It's not known if the store owner will attempt to rebuild.

Big picture view:

The blaze at Jaws Souvenirs was one of three fire incidents in the Bay County area within days. A lightning strike hit a home in Lynn Haven while crews also put out a vehicle fire in north Panama City.
